Day 1: 25 hours to Edinburgh
Good evening readers... It has been a very long day, but we have made it to Edinburgh. The first leg of our Qatar Airways flight was reasonably comfortable as we were in the small economy cabin upstairs on the A380. On Qatar it is a 2-4-2 configuration and that meant that Chris and I were together next to the window and there was some napping done. Our early arrival into Qatar was a bit of a shock to the system, as was the walk upstairs to the terminal , downstairs to the tarmac and a staggeringly long bus ride to the next suburb in order to board the plane. On this sector we were in a 3 in the middle with no extra person so a bit more stretch room was in order which made more dozing on the way into Edinburgh. We were also pretty astounded at the affluence of some travellers: father travelling in business, 2 au pairs travelling with mum and the kids in economy and absolute chaos as the kids ran around the plane in and out of business. When dad appeared in the economy cabin after his sleep in his platinum gold satin full length night dress I could not get my jaw off the floor. A real education in how the other half live.
Through customs and into Edinburgh by light rail, all the way from the terminal to almost right outside our hotel in Princess Street. We are staying in the same hotel that we stayed in 9 years ago, with mandatory views of the castle! But there was no time for resting. It was off to meet the travel tragics Martina and Enid who had trained it up from London today. We took off for the Royal Mile but were too late to stand on the castle courtyard pavement for a photo, so we wandered the Royal Mile and took some pics... those of you who know Enid and I well will know that “The Witchery” provided great mirth and merriment. Dinner was in an American Style diner on the Royal Mile, but they did have Haggis Bites on the menu and according to Chris that made it an authentic Scottish experience.
After dinner we bade farewell to Enid and Martina again as they have a couple of days in Edinburgh before joining us in Glasgow later in the week.
