Day 5... Once Upon a Time there was a Scottish Wedding

The clouds were somewhat foreboding this morning, but as today was the day of the Scottish Wedding we were willing the sun to shine or at least the rain in those cloudy skies to stay at bay. It was shaping up to be a busy day. Chris had decided to hire a kilt to wear to the event and so we needed to collect it, there was laundry to get sorted and a new Sim Card to source... and in the midst of all of this, important wedding things like a hair dressing appointment with Sarah. It was all happening in true wedding style.

We were still very annoyed about the Sherman tank that the Enterprise hire car company had provided us, and all of the excuses they were providing about it being a busy time and not many automatics and blah blah blah. But we were persistent and finally late in the afternoon we received the good news that there would be a smaller MPV, not unlike the one that we had wanted originally, and that it would be available first thing in the morning. Huzzah!

We were grateful for a slightly cooler day than yesterday as we sorted the wedding clobber. Chris needed a special lesson in dressing in a kilt from the son in law and so, before long, we were all ready at Boclair House to welcome the guests and get down to some serious partying.

What an amazing night. Boclair House is a beautiful olde world venue. A traditional building which was used for housing the elderly and less well off, it became a council offices building for a time before being returned to its former glory as a grand venue and hotel. The spaces are beautiful and the rooms where Sarah and Greg and some of the other young ones were staying were nothing short of spectacular. Copper bathtubs, rainforest shower rooms ... no detail overlooked.

We were totally struck by the love in the room and it was so special to meet Greg’s extended family and a whole lot of the friends that have become like family for the Francis clan over so many years. There was a feast of delicious nibbles and a pretty cute wedding cake (amazing what you can get from M&S). Sarah and Greg had gone to no end of trouble to bring the experience of the Sydney celebrations to Scotland and they had printed dozens of large prints from the professional photos from Sydney and had placed them around the room. There was talking and laughter, beautiful speeches highlighting the commitments and the sentiments of the actual wedding in Sydney... and then there was dancing and a very enthusiastic rendition of You’re the Voice by the Aussie contingent. A fabulous celebration... so much love.
