Day 6: The Happily Ever After After Party

The sunshine finally decided to leave us today, and sadly that meant that poor Linda and Alan were facing the prospect of truly Scottish weather for the After After Party BarBQ today... but more on that later.

The start of the day saw Chris and I having to get up early after our big night to drive into Glasgow to exchange the Sherman tank (Hyundai i800) for something somewhat more respectable to park and to drive. To say the reception and the service at Enterprise was cool was an understatement and they certainly took their time, but the great news is that we have our new vehicle for the trip south, a black  Ford Galaxy MPV. In our penchant for naming vehicles, we tried Vader, before settling on Harrison (Ford) from a Galaxy that is Far Far Away (OK apologies to George Lucas!) Harrison is a much more comfortable and manoeuvrable vehicle thank Sherman and has the luxury of sat nav and cruise control. And comfortable and practical, and in true Aussie style, Harrison soon earned the diminutive Harry!

Back to the hotel to collect Martina and it was off to the recovery breakfast with the wedding crew at Boclair House: another lovely chance to connect and to sort important things like the shipping for home and the kilt return - sounding a bit déjà vu on the latter after our Sydney experience. It was a bit time consuming and so, rather than venturing further afield today we opted for a visit to Artisan Coffee which is in behind Glasgow Uni. The Google entry describes the coffee shop as a hipster location and so we decided that good coffee was in order and we were not disappointed: great coffee and huge cheese scones!

The afternoon was time to gather again with the Scottish clan for a barbecue. Sadly, the weather had really deteriorated by this point and so, as the pictures will evidence, it was a bit of a huddle. Just getting closer with the fam! Linda and Alan and their friends had gone to so much trouble and it was such a feast. One of the highlights was the secret surprise celebration for Stephanie who will turn 16 on Monday: Linda had made a yummy Chocolate cake and the candle on the cake looked like a rocket ship! I think Steph was pretty  chuffed.

It was then time to go our separate ways. Anne-Marie and the family were going to the airport to go back to London before starting their tours. Patrick then left as he is heading home and then we finally farewelled Sarah and Greg as we left Linda and Alan’s. They are heading to the airport tonight to start the honeymoon leg of their trip in Italy and Greece. Then back to the hotel to organise our packing for the departure tomorrow.

Scotland, you have been a great joy to explore... and we have been treated so well. So blessed!
